Welcome to the very first blog post of Pattern + Purpose™! Transparency is a huge priority for me, and I can think of no better way to kick off this blog than by introducing myself. Building this business has often meant nurturing and inspiring hope for myself — my own ideal client. Someone who has felt lost, stuck in patterns of settling or indecision. So, if you’re curious about the coach behind Pattern + Purpose — the origin story, so to speak — read on.
I’ll start somewhere near the beginning, but not so far back to a dark and stormy night at the end of the ’80s (it was a sunny morning, but you get my point) that you get bored and tune out. I earned my B.S. in Psychology from the University of Florida in 2010, just three years after finishing high school. From early on, I knew I had a deep passion for the human mind — especially perception. How is it that people, even siblings raised with the same values, opportunities, and environment, can end up like night and day? That question fascinated me then and continues to do so now. Personality and perception are the engines that drive the human experience. My limited understanding of chemistry ruled out neuropsychology as a career, and counseling didn’t quite interest me. By the time I graduated, my life was already veering away from the “high-powered career woman” path I had imagined.
It’s only recently that I found a bridge connecting my curiosity about the mind with real-world experience. As the spouse of an active-duty military member, I chose — mostly for my own peace of mind — to take the path of least resistance and work various jobs instead of cultivating a career. Life was complicated enough, and I didn’t want to add stress by swimming upstream to carve out a professional purpose of my own. Instead, I found creative outlets through volunteer work and built what I call a “confetti resume,” with roles ranging from receptionist at a local gym and remote research assistant to temping at a law firm and working in benefits.
I have zero regrets about this patchwork of experiences because one thread weaves through them all: regardless of profession — whether a top attorney or a dive shop owner — we all face similar challenges like work-life balance, relationships, and accomplishing goals. None of us comes with a manual, no matter how much education or training we have. This realization was both comforting and inspiring. It’s what eventually led me to lean in when, after yet another existential crisis about my life’s purpose, my husband Brian said, “You should be a life coach.”
Curiosity has gotten me in trouble more times than I can count, but it’s also opened doors. It’s helped me have honest conversations with friends and colleagues that crack open new ways of thinking, leading to moments where they say, “I’ve never thought about it like that.” Hearing that is like diamonds falling from the sky. I know how powerful that shift feels, and I love witnessing it in others. So, with Brian’s encouragement, I dove into researching life coaching. I decided to hone my education, sharpen my skills through practice, and earn credentials before launching what you see today — Pattern + Purpose™.
That decision led me to iPEC’s Coach Training Program in May 2024. From the moment I spoke with my recruiter - Dimitri Niforos - completed the admission application, and started attending orientation ahead of the program’s official start date — I was hooked. I found it. I finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up. Amorphous concepts, thoughts, and experiences in my head started taking shape with the skills and tools I was offered. Though there were struggles and “opportunities for growth,” I earned my Certified Professional Coach credential, along with two other powerful, unique home-grown credentials from iPEC by May 2025. And this is only the beginning of how I know this coaching journey will continue to shape me.
What you really need to know about me is this: I am endlessly curious. Maybe that’s why I love the works of Lewis Carroll so much. That curiosity, paired with a commitment to suspend judgment, has opened my world in beautiful ways. I’m so excited to continue exploring the human condition — one client at a time.
