Energy Management: The Six COR.E® Influencers That Shape How You Show Up

What Impacts Your Energy?

When you think about your energy—whether it feels high or low, fueled or drained—how often do you stop to reflect on what’s actually contributing to it?

Some factors might seem obvious. Not getting enough sleep can leave you frustrated when your computer freezes at work. Introverts know their social battery only has so much charge and often bow out of gatherings after a couple of hours. Certainly, the emotions tied to a break-up or loss impact whether we move through the day with a spring in our step—or not.

If you’ve ever had a day where you felt “off” and didn’t know why, you also know how quickly that uncertainty compounds. What could have been a five-minute frustration ends up coloring your whole day.

Imagine how much grace you’d give yourself if, instead of wondering why you felt drained, you could pinpoint the source—and shift your experience. Maybe not immediately, but at least in a way that stacks the deck in your favor for tomorrow.

As G.I. Joe famously said, “knowing is half the battle.” iPEC has done the pinpointing for us by identifying six areas of our life experience that influence how we show up energetically. These are called the COR.E® Influencers. They help us notice whether we’re operating under stress or ease, and they serve as powerful tools for awareness when I work with clients to cultivate responses that feel more intentional and aligned.

The Six COR.E® Influencers

Spiritual

When you hear “spiritual,” you might jump to religion or “woo woo” practices. While those can play a role, this influencer is more personal. It’s about what deeply motivates you—your calling, values, ethics, and sense of alignment.

My spiritual influencer was impacted every time my husband and I had a move with the military. Each time, I joked—but not really—that I was having an existential crisis. While he thrived in his purpose, instructing and flying, I often felt adrift. I worked jobs to bring in an income, but the way I spent most of my time wasn’t fulfilling. I felt like there was more I could, should, and more importantly wanted to be doing. My spiritual influencer was out of sync.

Spiritual alignment doesn’t always come from our careers, but when our daily lives consistently run counter to our core values, it drains energy. The spiritual influencer helps us notice when our actions, beliefs, and calling are in harmony and is more about building a life in alignment—not out of fear, but from conscious choice.

Mental

Presence of mind…comes to mind when I think of the mental influencer. This one is all about the ability to focus, think clearly, and remain engaged in what we’re doing. It might even be one of the more obvious influencers when it comes to spotting where we’re supported and where we’re drained.

Think about your days back in grade school. What subjects bored you to tears, and which ones captivated you? How do you recall your ability to focus and comprehend what was being taught? How did you feel at the end of that class when the bell rang?

The same applies now. If you’ve ever tried to write emails while your mind kept drifting to your grocery list, you know how exhausting it can be. But when your focus locks in, even tedious tasks take less out of you.

By noticing what supports your focus—and what drains it—you gain opportunities to bring in support when you want to be operating at a higher level energetically.

Emotional

There’s no such thing as a bad emotion. Truly.

I like to think of emotions as additional data points. It can be typical to judge them, try to suppress them,  or analyze them as some profound statement about our character. In actuality, they are insightful experiences that can help us trace what we’re experiencing.

Our thoughts drive our emotions. Something happens, we interpret it, and our brain produces a feeling.

Within that process, we can start to ask why. Is a value being challenged? A belief being confirmed? A desire being met—or blocked?

The real opportunity is in noticing whether we’re reacting or responding. Are we running on autopilot, defaulting to anger or joy whenever certain situations arise? Or have we raised enough awareness to pause and choose differently – Like whether we want to flick off the dude who cut us off on our way out of the church parking lot.

Physical

Our bodies speak loudly when it comes to energy. Sleep, illness, diet, and movement all directly impact how we show up. And yet, how often do we just power through?

I’ve been guilty of this. Operating on too little sleep or forcing myself to finish emails while sick never actually helped—it only drained me further. Now, in my 30s, I’ve become much more aware of what my body is telling me. And when I honor those messages, I set better expectations for my day.

That doesn’t just impact my to-do list. It shifts how I interact with people, how creative I feel, and how I show up in relationships.

So the question is: how is your body influencing your energy—and what small choices can you make to support it?

Social

If you’re on Instagram, you’ve probably s

een memes about introverts, extroverts, and ambiverts. These labels give us a glimpse into who we are socially—and how different types of interaction impact our energy.

Some gatherings leave us buzzing. Others leave us with a full-on social hangover. It’s not just about personality though. It’s also about alignment.

I’ve noticed my social influencer at play when collaborating. In some groups, I feel energized and inspired. In others, I feel pulled off course, pressured into goals I don’t actually want.

Being aware of this influencer helps us consciously choose the relationships and groups that fuel us instead of drain us. Because who we connect with doesn’t just affect how we feel—it shapes the direction we take.

Environmental

As a born-and-raised Floridian, I don’t do cold. After moving to Oklahoma, I adapted enough to bask in the “balmy” warmth of 40 degrees without shivering—but let’s just say I still feel the drag of shorter, colder days.

The spaces we find ourselves in - whether the fluorescent cubicle jungles of an office building, or the misty shade of a deciduous forest - absolutely impact our energy. Our beliefs about how we’re able to adapt and manage our environments do too.

I had one job where I relied on a space heater to offset the perpetual 65-degree chill. Another job didn’t allow them, so I found the perfect oversized cardigan and swaddled myself enough to stay on task. It seems small, but that comfort changed my performance.

From the time of year and hemisphere you live on, to the building and the room you work in, our environment influences how we feel and function.

The good news? Sometimes just one small adjustment can shift how supported we feel.

How to Use the COR.E® Influencers for Energy Management

Knowing that there are six COR.E® Influencers and identifying the levers of each is just the beginning of effective energy management. These influencers give you a framework to notice when your energy feels aligned—and when something is pulling you off course.

Sometimes it’s as simple as leaving a cardigan at work to shift your environment. Other times, a cozy garment isn’t enough to create an energy shift, if it turns out that your job is in conflict with your personal beliefs.

When you reflect on the influencers regularly, you get to raise awareness, make conscious choices, and support yourself in showing up at the energy level you actually want.
